You may have heard, Sylvain Sylvain died a couple days ago from cancer. He was a co-founder of the New York Dolls, the rhythm guitarist and the guy who came up with the name. His band-mate Johnny Thunders gets a lot of credit, rightfully so, for his swagger if nothing else. David Johansen was a good front man and is recognized as such. But. There's a but. Now, I've never read a long detailed bio of the Dolls so this is just an educated guess. I kinda think Sylvain is due a lot more credit for his contribution. I was never enthralled with his post-Dolls stuff (though I really never gave it a chance), but he brought the Dolls together, wrote songs and played guitar with them. He's always had my respect just for that.

Was just reading about Sylvains passing in the NY Times. Apparently Phil Spector's gone too. Spector obviously more lauded for his contribution(s) to the world of popular music, but in the human being department (which is what counts), I bet there's no contest; Sylvain hands down.
Yeah, Espen, I'm not crying many tears about a wannabe tyrant with a Napoleon complex. His sun was set on "River Deep Mountain High". Anything done after didn't come close to his early-mid sixties string of hits. That crap with the Beatles, Lennon and the Ramones was lackluster.
Hope you're doing good. Everybody will be doing better when the fuckwad is gone tomorrow morning. Hours, just hours. A tip of the hat to the rodents!
