I'LL HAVE THE SIX PIECE NUGGET MEAL

Post-slack fest posts are always about righting the ship and getting back to meat and potatoes rock. At different times it's been punk rock, rockabilly or garage, in other words, stuff with dirt under the nails. Throw away the candy canes, garage is for dinner tonight. Fuzz and nasally vocals, you know the drill.

GREAT MOMENTS IN TIGHTWAD SHOPPING

I've got a lot of records but I'm not a record collector. I'm glad I'm not. What it was for me initially was a financial decision. I was trying to get out of debt so I'd question myself on every luxury item. When you already have a lot of records, adding more is a luxury. So I'd be in a record store and pick up an LP, let's just say the Everly Brothers, and before becoming attached to it, I'd ask myself, "When was the last time you played one of the Everly Brothers records you already have?" You can guess what the answer usually was. So, I'd tell myself, "No more Everly Brothers for you until you re-listen the records of theirs that you already have." It's totally logical and the gateway to breaking the habit of impulsive purchases. I'm mentioning that because there was a time that the Kenny and the Kasuals LP above was on my list. It was big bucks (probably about $30), and I told myself no. Try it. You'll be surprised. You don't have to have everything.

KENNY KAN'T SPELL

Looking for something by Kenny and the Kasuals, I ran across an old post at WFMU's Beware of the Blog, Songs the Woggles Taught Us, in other words, songs that the Woggles covered. These Woggle characters had some kinda taste. Nearly every one of the songs is top shelf killer. They range from Top 40, to deeper cuts from familiar artists, to the totally obscure, That WFMU's Debbie D. (now at Rock 'n' Soul Ichiban) was able to track all of these down is an achievement in itself. Here's just a couple. There's over fifty. Yeah. GTFO, baby.

ORIGINAL EDITION: 500

Enough of this leaning on I'm Shakin'. I went bookmark crazy over there for a few days, and am having a hard time stopping. So, let me lay this on you, man. I'm Shakin' is worth looking through. I think I mentioned that it was chocked full of keepers. Not just good music, great music that you might never run into again. It hasn't been updated in a while, but it seems like all of the music links are still good. So do yourself a favor. Bookmark the sucker. I'm going to try to resist the urge to keep posting links there, one after another. It's probably annoying somebody. So one last one, for a while anyway. Because, like those earlier in the week, this one is top shelf. And I am now finished wiggling my ass out of doing a legitimate post. Yet again.
