A NOTE TO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

Though it's become obvious that some music publishers cannot read, I will remind those that can. I have never uploaded a single copyrighted recording, ever. With the exception of seven songs (of which I hold the original master tape), every song that's been mentioned on this blog was uploaded by someone else, on someone else's server. Because the music was posted by someone else (and, in many cases I don't own, or have even downloaded the songs I'm writing about), it would be reasonable to assume that, since I didn't upload the material, I can't take it down. I thought it obvious enough because I have mentioned, and linked to, the hosting blogs where the songs were found, and am now posting, above every group of links "NOTE: ALL MEDIA IS HOSTED BY THE BLOGS & SITES NAMED BELOW." So, music publishers, recording artists, record companies, and anyone else directly involved with any song linked to on this blog, if you think that the meager traffic that this blog receives is a threat to someone's livelihood, by all means let me know. All comments left on any post are read and followed up on within hours. I'm reasonable. I'm trying to increase the appreciation of music, not take the grilled cheese sandwich out of Mick Jagger's mouth.

it's unconscionable that someone's roaming to make sure your posts aren't stealing... but i know that's some people have nothing better to do. Let the music appreciation continue, industry snipers be damned!

Morgan,
Couldn't find an email at OTFS. I really dig your blog. Nice consistently good selections! Let me know if you mind me linking to you. Thanks, Tom.

If you've got a message to relay I'll do that for you, but I'm not giving out anyone's personal info. If you're a collector looking for the "Occasional Lay" 45, I believe they're tapped out. Please note: I'm not doing this to hook up collectors.

Where and how do you find the mp3 links. Blogs are my favourite way to discover music; if someone's gone to the trouble of uploading a few tracks and writing a little piece about them then chances are they'll be worthwhile in some way.

I use the blog aggregator digg and have fed in to it a hundred or so blogs. And hypem.com to search by artist, song title or genre tracks attached to blog posts and to find more blogs to add to the digg account.

Dude. Google "mp3 search sites". And make sure your anti-virus doohickey is up to date. There is no secret, but there is legwork involved.

I just heard that possibly Dennis Dragon died. I cannot confirm this & it says nothing about it on his web-site. You got anything???

I've seen no mention from official press outlets, but I belong to a "secret" Facebook group (about old school California surf stuff) and there was a post mentioning it with comments from apparent acquaintances. Still, none cited an official source or first hand accounts.

Hey Tom... your site is the one of the few worth a regular visit (as in every day...)

While a lot of your links are discontinued blogs, what do you reckon are some other good'uns, still alive and kickin'?

Check the links to the left under "Get Lost". If you're looking for blogs with mp3s, those are harder to come by. If you land on one that has streaming music, check their older posts. They often have mp3s on older posts. Other than that, shit, there's 2500 posts here and each one has links to other blogs. Most of them have blogrolls as well. It takes legwork.
