IT'S PARTISAN SOMEWHERE

I just realized, the Beatles vs Stones debate probably doesn't happen anymore. If you're of a certain age, you're thinking "Beatles vs Stones debate? What the hell is that?" Back in the day, it was a thing. You were a Beatles fiend or a Rolling Stones fiend. It was a binary choice. They. Could. Not. Be. Tied. Everybody had to take a stand. If you didn't, you were a music plebeian. I'm sure there were couples where it was a big enough deal that a marriage might not move forward if one didn't relent.

Last week I ran across some Exile on Main St.-era Stones videos (1972). Playing live in a studio, a sound-stage or something. Pretty clean footage, and nice to see them in a controlled environment, live without the distraction of an audience. Then last night I ran into a great Beatles related video. Peter Jackson, the guy who made the Lord of the Rings movies, got a hold of fifty something hours of Beatles footage, from when they were making Let It Be. The clip was about six minutes, including a introduction by Jackson. It's a teaser for a documentary he's making from the footage, now apparently delayed due to the pandemic. The footage is from roughly 1969, presented as sort of a montage, some synced to the backing track, them rehearsing "Get Back". It's excellent. There's a link down there with Paul McCartney raving to Howard Stern about how good the footage is.
