This started with a nice three year old surprise, a Curtis Mayfield sound-alike that's not afraid to throw in more contemporary elements. Hard to believe it was a 2017 release. Seriously, where has this guy been hiding? A definite seventies vibe courtesy of his voice and the strings. And speaking of voice, strings and seventies soul, there's another down there from the late great Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings and that one reminded me of a great video where Ms Jones absolutely tears it up. Paris, 2011, she's 55 years old, a nine minute tour de force. She goes through a litany of vintage dance moves, the boogaloo, the pony, the funky chicken, the tighten up, the jerk, and the swim. Six or so minutes into the song, Prince pops his head in, trying to show off with some completely out of place guitar licks. The momentum of the song doesn't really slow down because Jones and the Dap-Kings all but ignore him and keep on doing what they do. Boogie.
