LOVE ON THE ROCKS

The trailer for the new Jim Jarmusch zombie flick is out. He's a great director of many great films, blah, blah, blah. More important, he turned me onto Mulatu Astatke. It was in the soundtrack of his film Broken Flowers. That was Ethio-jazz. If he can do that, I'm waiting to see what he can do with Love's "Seven and Seven Is". It's in the soundtrack of the trailer so  it's likely to be featured in the film. Many of us know the song like the back of our hand, great fuckin' song, you know. But how many fans of zombie shit have heard Love? Remember what Pulp Fiction did for Dick Dale, and for surf music in general? Let's see if, five years from now,  "Seven and Seven Is" will be played between innings.

Saturdays are (usually) movie nights here in da crib and this one looks like its gonna be right up our alley, Tom! (We spent x-mas watching the last Ash vs. Evil Dead season on Netflix with Isak). And yeah; although I'm not really a huge fan of Love as such, 7+7 is a genuine killer (we used to either open or close shows with it with TBMTY)!

And since you flashbacked Mulatu; we saw him and his band perform here just a couple weeks ago. Brought my handheld recorder, and think I got most of it (before the internal memory was full). Haven't listened back to it yet but think it turned out alright.

Heya E! Man, you get your fair share of good shows there. What type of venue did Mulatu play in?

Hey Tom! Listening to the gig right now. Recording doesn't sound half bad, twenty minutes in. Mulatu played this place; https://usf.no/lokaler/rokeriet-usf/. A 3-minute walk from where we live. Very convenient. Standing room for an audience of around 1200. Good PA. Saw The Swans there a few years back. Two weeks ago they had Manowar :).

But yes, we get some good stuff every now and then, even if we're sort of an outpost (even nationally). Just four days later - different venue - we went to see The Wooden Shjips, out of San Francisco. Took Isak along (actually he was the one who tipped me they were booked there!). Got him a couple signed LP's and a T-shirt after the show too, so now he owes us big time in the kid brother babysitting department!

Wow, that's a nice place to have three minutes away. The only venues within walking distance from here is a hippie-ish joint that has way too many Grateful Dead type tribute bands, and mediocre blues bands. All the other places are breweries with over priced "fancy" beers. That doesn't hold much for me, being a dry alcoholic (22 years and counting). But the infamous Casbah is only about ten minutes away by car. They get the bulk of the up and comers.
