Somewhere between Gene Vincent and Hasil Adkins there are heck of a lot of oddball rockabilly wannnabes. Guys that, while not as crazed as the Adkins, ain't nowhere near Vincent. They're just off. Whether it's the material, the singer, the playing, or the recording quality, something is off. And there's a shitload of this type of rockabilly. I kind of dig it.
The production on these two by Warren Robbe is so out of whack it's almost as if the session was sabotaged intentionally. The guitar is buried and that muffled picking is about the only thing above average about these. Robbe's not blameless. He's surely not going to get his share of girly action by singing songs about his damn chicken pen.
