IF YOU CAN'T WIN, CHANGE THE GAME

In the early to mid-sixties, American bands had to compete with the British Invasion. Around 1966 they threw in the towel, as if Rubber Soul convinced them to just be their simple three chord selves. Snotty vocals, fuzz, a little organ and an air of arrogance. Two and a half minutes on plastic. Done. Not rocket science here.

What an eloquent and well-put statement. It's everything you need to know about garage & early psychedelic rock. And it's why it remains my favorite form of music even into my 60s.

Thanks EG. I'm with you about garage and early psychedelic stuff. It's as if something clicked and American garage bands all thought "Fuck 'em, let's do what we do well" at the same time.
