I tell ya, it's just criminal how little recognition Johnny Otis gets for his role in the rhythm and blues scene back in the fifties. (If you're not familiar with him, just check the first paragraph of the Wikipedia page.) I heard a song of his earlier today and he got in my head and hasn't left.
