Diddy Wah just posted the first 45 by Junior Kimbrough, credited as Junior Kimbell, from 1967. After hearing that, I started browsing and landed on the video below. All hell broke loose. The evening is shot. Check it out. You know what comes to mind? A phrase from the liner notes on an early Johnny Winter LP: "hypnotic blues bag". That's what Junior Kimbrough is. He's a hypnotic blues bag. What he's got is what others wish they had, some kind of intangible numbing air. What the Stones couldn't summon on Exile on Main St., or the Black Keys on The Big Come Up. Don't even think about bringing up the Jon Spencer thing, or, for crying out loud, the edit by Daft Punk (for a fashion show of all things). Watch the video, rather listen to it. That's not something you can bottle.
