LOAD-IN TIME FOR THE NEU TRIBUTE BAND

That's not Neu! above, that's them below. And it is not a Neu! tribute band. I just couldn't resist posting that photo of the rather normal looking Bowie and Iggy in Berlin, circa '76. Some of you might know the connection. Regardless, you might hear it. This one, "Negativeland", sort of grows on you, like fungus. Neu! was two early Kraftwerk defectors. By the sounds of things, they got the guitars and amps.

Haha, Iggy's wearing a Claude Funston t-shirt. Awesome.

Hey Tom!.. 3/4 through "Future Days - Krautrock and the building of modern Germany" (by David Stubbs) here… 466 pages in all – a brick of a book.

Michael Rother was in town for a gig last year, but I didn't go. Friends tell me it was great. Yeah. Maybe so. …Caught Rother's own Neu! tribute band Hallogallo (feat. Sonic Youthster Steve Shelley) in 2010, but they stuck to the Neu! stuff that (imo) sucks. The later stuff. The elevator department stuff. Certainly didn't play Negativland.

And speaking of; did you know that the presumed (I presume) guitar squealing away on Negativland is actually a sonically treated Japanese banjo? Bet you didn't… like I said; a brick of a book.

PS. That Bowie+Pop pic is strangely intriguing. Caught at an odd (and contemplative?) moment, that's for sure… Magnum P.I. and the Nutty Professor.

Hey E!

I did not know about the Japanese banjo thing. A little known fact I can spring on someone at a cocktail party, providing said party has any attendees that actually know who Neu! is. (Alas, doubtful in my circles.)

Magnum P.I. and the Nutty Professor? Nailed it!
