THE GODFATHER

Hardest working man in show business? "The Popcorn" was recorded after playing a show at Dallas Memorial Auditorium (in 1968). Who goes in the studio right after a gig, on the same night? Sure, there are barely any vocals on the cut, but, still, who dragged everyone there?

James Brown was not a saint. he did have his run-ins; and he wasn't what you'd call modest. And, really, in quite a few of his songs, there are minimal vocal duties. Would the JB's, his amazing backing band, have existed without him? With or without everything above in the equation, is there anyone who delivered the groove more consistently?
