YOU GONNA EAT ALL THAT?

What we got here is a good old fashioned time waster. At Quoperative, a blog I just ran across today, there's a post leads to an interactive gizmo that separates all of the different tracks of the Stones' "Gimme Shelter" so that you can listen to them isolated as single tracks, or you can just drop out Bill Wyman. As the host of the blog, a guy named Steve, points out, you can hear imperfections that you wouldn't ordinarily hear (he mentions Merry Clayton's voice cracks at 3:00). Unfortunately there's no fader or volume controls, so you'll have to wait to play full-on producer.

I would have posted some mp3s of "Gimme Shelter," and some covers (specifically Merry Clayton's) but I've got to play it safe. I've been on the receiving end of two stern reprimands for posts, and the only common denominator was the Rolling Stones. Long story short, Jagger has it in for me, dating back to a grilled cheese sandwich incident at a Denny's in Sayre, Oklahoma back in '75. So, no mp3s, but there are a couple links to pages where you can find the grilled cheese watchdog & company doing "Hound Dog" live, and another link to a page that has the guitar and vocal tracks isolated and posted as mp3s, along with a nice little write up about the song itself.
