HOWDY FROM SUNGLASS DEPOT

I'm sick, head cold or flu or who knows what. The official diagnosis: I feel like shit. So, I'm gonna let Mudhoney take it out, and since misery loves company, Sonic Youth covering Mudhoney.

Never really cared for Kim Gordon’s vocal contributions, but on that version of Touch Me I’m Sick, it actually seems of work. Funny how they come across - at least - as carelessly fucked up as Mudhoney, but still manage to better them by a safe distance (I think it’s mainly down to how Steve Shelley interprets the Sick riff and in turn lays down a sharper beat).

Haven't seen Sonic Youth in action. They never came through here, for one, and our paths didn't cross when I was out of town either. Interest trailed off in the mid-nineties, but in later years I've picked up some of Thurston Moore's solo stuff, which isn't bad at all (and sans Kim Gordon's off-key pipes).

Now, Gordon, Moore and Ranaldo have all been in town after S.Y. broke up - with respective projects - but I either didn’t get off my ass, or was otherwise engaged. So, when Thurston Moore Band did a gig here last year I finally went, and have to say - as concerts go, it was actually the highlight of (albeit a rather meager) 2015; a solid B+ on the report card.

Get well if you ain't already :)

Typo: seems TO work. not OF work.

(Not that anyone cares, but still; I'm a stickler)

Oh, jeez e, I saw both bands a few times back in the day, once on a triple bill (with Gumball) in Tijuana Mexico (or TJ as it's known here). It was nuts, wrote about it a while back:

As far as typos go, I defy you to point out a post here that doesn't have at least one typo, punctuation error or just plain bad grammar. If there's one thing I'm good at, it's mistakes.
