GAME CHANGER

Ever followed a band for years, with waning interest, checking in on them every few years or maybe going to see them on one of those reunion tours (that usually comes with questionable motives attached)? Sometimes you can kind of forget why you got so worked up about them in the first place. The initial "Whoa! What was that?" feeling has long since faded and you realize that it might be force of habit, or worse, coddling. Whatever it is, you find yourself relegating them to the "used to be vital" bin. That's happened to me with a number of bands, but not with Bad Brains. To be honest, they did fall off my radar, but not for any particular reason. I haven't a clue what they've been up to for the last couple of decades. But, I do know this: hearing "Pay To Cum," today, and then seeing the live video of the song (below), totally reminded me why they were such a kick in the pants about thirty years ago.

Check the bottle dodge at :14.

So here's the 45 version of "Pay to Cum," along the flip side "Stay Close to Me," and the 1978 rehearsal demo of "Pay to Cum." There's three more demos at Killed By Death (again, another blog you really ought to bookmark). I'm going to go bang out the dishes.
