BIG FAT THANK YOU

Barstool Mountain's first post from the Top 100 Drinking Songs is "A Six Pack to Go" by Hank Thompson. I think he posted it early as a result of my last post, where I all but begged for it. Someone in Chicago buy the man a beer and send me the bill.

"A Six Pack to Go" is a near perfect drinking song. It has the requisite twang, pedal steel, easy-to-remember lyrics and just a dash of remorse.

Happy to do it. Thompson's one of the Holy Trinity of Hank's (himself, Snow, and Williams). I'm going hold you to that Gang Green post...

I started it with the intent to get it to you right away, but master digresser that I am, it was getting pretty wordy. I'm going out of town for a couple days but I'll try to have it to you, at whatever length, by Sunday. Thanks again.

Thompson used to play lots of hole-in-the-wall, backwater town gigs late in his career. He'd book a local band, send out ancient recordings and charts to his set lists, and then show up for the gig in his big old Eldorado. He'd shake hands with the band, and start singing. The real surprise was that he'd aged a bit and changed the key to Bb. That sure made for an interesting gig. The next day I bought myself a damn capo...

Wow! You got to back him? Very cool. I'd heard that Chuck Berry toured in a similar way, after his peak...
