IT IS DYNAMIC AND EXCITING

I don't know. You can call the Graham Bond Organization anything. Lump them in with jazz, R & B, blues, I don't care. Whatever it is, after revisiting mod shit earlier today, it really hit the spot. This stuff was hip amongst a certain set in England in the mid-sixties, but it sure wasn't here in the U.S. I think the jazz part of it scared off the kids, or maybe it was an abundance of organ or, in some cases, the absence of guitar. Whatever it was, it was our loss. Just check out these two. Graham Bond Organization's "Wade in the Water" just completely swings. Two and a half minutes of organ and sax head butting. Listen to the drums. That's Ginger Baker right there, going off as per usual. The other song, the Artwoods "Walk On the Wild Side" is slower and longer, but of similar vintage and the same general scene. Substituting guitar for sax, it features a pre-Deep Purple Jon Lord on organ.
