DUDE, STICK TO SHARKSKIN

Here's a good reason to veer away from career spanning compilations and greatest hits collections. If you don't, you'll never run into the odd out of character gem. This particular one is Wilson Pickett, produced by Gamble & Huff with a heavy nod to Norman Whitfield. Six minutes of extended instrumental hijinks, fuzz, congas and, yes, plenty of cowbell. And Pickett, he's definitely picking up a little sumpin' sumpin' from the GFOS.

But Engine, Engine #9 is actually ON "The Very Best of Wilson Pickett," on Rhino. Which for a single-disc greatest hits package is not bad at all.

Love your blog -- it's one of the few I try to visit every day.

Just read "you'll never" as "you're less likely to" and you'll get my point. Know this, I don't fact check. If mistakes are what you come for, you're in for a treat.

That was meant to be a "thanks". Really, it was. So, thanks.

Absolutely cool.

That McCartney letter to Allen Klein is fascinating. TL&WR isn't my favorite Beatles song either, but I can understand Paul's frustration. And at the same time, after all those years of hearing it with the strings, I kind of think they suit it. As in, I'm not sure the lyrics are really good enough to stand "naked" on their own.
