THUNDERSOUL RIDES AGAIN

If ever there was a story about the benefits of staying in school, it would be that of the Kashmere Stage Band. They were a tight high school band from Texas, led by music teacher Conrad "Prof" Johnson, who were deep in funk; so good, in fact, that even before their recordings were reissued as a compilation, their records were hot property for funk collectors. Johnson taught them their chops, and is the one common denominator in their success in band competitions of the late sixties and early seventies. To repay him, former students, many of whom hadn't played in years, reunited for what was to be a one-off show, as a tribute to him. The independent film Thundersoul, about the band, the man, and the reunion, has finally debuted and is playing in selected theaters nationwide (the schedule of showings can be found here). Listen to them rip apart "Take Five,' and see if that doesn't wet your whistle.
